BTEC Training
The award is an NVQ level 3 in training and development. It has been designed to enable
the assessment of a candidates ability to design and deliver learning programs, monitor
own performance and development and to identify the needs of the learner.
An NVQ is achieved by the assessment of your ability to carry out a series of tasks
(performance criteria) and to ascertain your competence in those particular areas.
During the course and for ten weeks after completion of the course, you will be
assessed on your ability to carry out the following:
Evaluate and develop own practice
Design learning programs
Develop training sessions
Enable learning through demonstrations and instruction
Enable group learning
N.B. More information on these areas can be obtained by logging on to
www.edexcel.org.uk.

-
Observation (you being watched whilst carrying out a certain task)
-
Work Based Evidence (written work prepared by you before/during the course and the ten week assessment period).
All evidence that you submit is collated into a portfolio. The portfolio will be
indexed and clearly marked to show which particular task it relates to. Some of the
evidence will cover more than one task and indexed accordingly.
The course is broken down into three stages:
Pre-course preparation minimum 30 hours
Vocational Trainers Award Level 3 instruction course 5 days
Post-course assessment and portfolio building 10 weeks
Under current NVQ rules, no award may be applied for before a period of ten weeks
from the date of registration. Ten weeks is not a long time in NVQ terms, make use
of the time. Remember your other work commitments will have to take priority and the
time allocated will be surprisingly short.
You will not require any qualifications; however some experience in a training
environment will be advantageous. Dont worry too much if you are unable to take
advantage of the training experience of others within your company, as you will
be taught the essentials of being a trainer within the 5-day course. We also
offer a free telephone/e-mail advisory service to help and support you through
every stage of the process.
You will be required to carry out a certain amount of pre-course work. This will
enable us to evaluate and identify your strengths and weaknesses at an early stage
and offer a greater level of support during the 5-day course. The pre-course work
required is not difficult and a minimum of 30 hours should be spent on the projects.
You will be required to complete a record of the time spent on the work, (annex a)
and this will form a part of the assessment process for the award.
