Course Outline in respect of close protection training course as recognised by the BCUC and SIA.
The close protection-training course has been devised based on a combination of both Police
and Military close protection training courses, together with experience gained within the
private sector in relation to close protection. The designees of the course have many years
of experience in relation to close protection and hold official home office qualifications
in relation to the subject matter.
The course is run over a 15 day training period, (student will require the first aid
at work training certificate, this can be offered as part of the course) which involves
both classroom theory input, together with practical training
scenarios. The student initially is led through the theory of the specific lesson within the
classroom environment; this is then reinforced by way of practical training scenarios where
the student puts the theory into practice. Experienced and qualified trainers in the field
conduct the courses.
The students are assessed by way of question and answer during the classroom sessions,
together with assessment during practical training scenarios. The final assessment of
the student, is both theory based with a written examination and on a practical front,
by way of a final exercise in which the students set up and run a close protection
operation.
The course confirms to the content as required by the SIA regulations, in respect to
National Occupational Standards in relation to close protection training. The below
is a guide to the training manual and course content in reference to the specific
headings as directed by the SIA.
The Shield training program in relation to close protection covers all required fields
as outlined below. Shield offers the below training, either as part of, or in addition
to the Close Protection Course as described.
A full written Training Performance Record will be issued to the student on the
conclusion of each module. Students reaching the required standards at the culmination
of each module will also be issued with a SHIELD certification specifying both the
skills and abilities achieved by the student within that module.

and credibility to enter the field of Personal Security. In addition you will be certified
that in the opinion of Shields instructional staff, that you now have the ability to work
operationally within the security industry with motivation and at the highest of professional
standards as a Close Protection Operative.
Finally you will achieve the satisfaction that you have undertaken the most demanding and
professionally run courses available in the private sector for this type of work and will
be able to show to potential employers (and colleagues) by way of your Training Performance
Records, the high standards you have already attained.
This course is run both in the UK and the United States allowing the student to gain
experience Internationally. This is an intense course culminating in a final exercise
where all skills learned will be put to the test.
Shield staff will endeavour, where possible, to assist with students travel arrangements
for those who have to attend by way of public transport. (Details supplied on request).
Training undertaken within the US includes all flights and car hire and accommodation but not meals.
Students would be expected to bring with them suitable clothing appropriate for the training
undertaken within the chosen module. Advice on such matters will be included within the
pre-read package. The supply and usage of vehicles required for the operational needs of
the course will be included within the course fee.
As stated, students undertaking the Modular Training will receive comprehensive pre-read notes,
together with a suitable binder once their full course fee has been processed. The notes will
form the basis of the theory within the module undertaken. It is intended that these notes be
studied in some depth prior to the commencement of the training. This will enable more time
for practical applications of those tactics and techniques explained within them. This manual
should accompany students attending each module. Failure to do so may render the student
ineligible to undertake training. These Modules can be physically and mentally demanding so a
general high standard of personal fitness is required to benefit from the training undertaken.
